Washington, D.C. -- Today, after months of mounting scandals and revelations of unethical behavior, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned.

Clean Water Action's President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, released the following statement:

"Good riddance. Scott Pruitt was the architect of the most damaging agenda for our water and health in decades and should have never been running EPA in the first place. Pruitt gutted agency morale, leading to the departure of far too many career staff, experts, and dedicated public servants. He installed polluter cronies throughout EPA and started the rollback of countless protections for clean water, clean air, and public health. He wasted taxpayer money and potentially set us back by decades.

Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler should abandon Pruitt’s toxic agenda and begin to repair the harm of his predecessor. Senators must demand a qualified nominee to replace Pruitt and refuse to confirm anyone who denies climate change and promises to continue President Trump's dirty water agenda. It may take a long time to repair the damage Pruitt caused, but this is our chance to fight for sensible leadership at EPA, demand a stop to the rollbacks, and make sure that polluters can no longer call the shots or get their way. It's time to make sure EPA puts people first again."

Since our founding during the campaign to pass the landmark Clean Water Act in 1972, Clean Water Action has worked to win strong health and environmental protections by bringing issue expertise, solution-oriented thinking and people power to the table. We will protect clean water in the face of attacks from a polluter friendly Administration and Congress.
