Washington DC -- Today a violent mob smashed its way into the US Capitol.

Clean Water Action President and CEO, Bob Wendelgass, released the following statement:

"We’re heartbroken by the assault on our country and on our democracy. We hope that calm prevails soon and people in and around the Capitol remain safe.

But we’re not shocked. This violence has been egged on by the President and his allies who refuse to accept that he lost by an overwhelming margin and want to stand in the way of the future. Too many elected Republicans encouraged this by parroting the President’s lies and attempting to undermine the certification of the electoral college vote, while others are complicit in their silence. That is unacceptable.

This white supremacist mob violence will not be the last word on this election or our democracy. Tens of millions of us came together in November and demanded change, and we will continue to come together -- the people have spoken. On January 20th we’ll finally turn the page and begin to put our country back together, and make it stronger. We look forward to that work."
