Washington DC -- Clean Water Action responded to the latest news on the negotiations over the Build Back Better Act:
"We are dismayed by the newest roadblocks to passage of the Build Back Better Act. This bill is essential to fighting climate change by accelerating the transition to clean energy, investing in our water and other infrastructure, strengthening our economy, creating good jobs and supporting American families. We look forward to working with Congress and the White House to get negotiations back on track and pass this transformational legislation as soon as possible. Failure is not an option – our planet and communities demand action.
The Senate must also do whatever it can to move, without delay, to strengthen our democratic institutions and safeguard our elections and right to vote by passing the Freedom to Vote Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Protecting our democracy and access to the ballot is essential to tackling the climate crisis, putting drinking water first, and safeguarding the health of our communities.
In the meantime, the Biden administration must move quickly to use its existing authority to reduce climate-changing pollution, starting by slashing methane emissions, and to protect communities by equitably implementing the investments included in the Bipartisan Infrastructure law, which passed earlier this year.
