Just as Pennsylvania is finalizing strong rules to control methane emissions from new oil and gas operations, the Wolf Administration introduced concepts to control emissions from the nearly 10,000 fracked wells and numerous oil and gas operations already in existence that lack the protections Pennsylvanians need. These concepts, draft ideas that could end up as policy proposals, exclude methane and focus exclusively on controlling volatile organic compounds. Overall, these measures don’t go beyond the weak policies the federal government currently has on the books.
It’s contradictory that at the same we’re finalizing strong rules for new operations; we introduce weak ones for existing operations. Sign our petition to Governor Wolf and demand equally strong protection to control methane emissions from existing oil and gas operations.
