Can We Talk About Donald Trump?

There is plenty to be pro-actively excited about by a Hillary Clinton presidency. As Bob pointed out Hillary’s environmental platform is the most progressive in history and I could not be more excited to support her campaign.

But there is something that we have to talk about  -  what we stand to lose if we are not successful in our campaign to elect the first Madam President

Frankly, I wish it weren’t so easy to imagine.

Let’s start with President Obama’s legacy. Everything we’ve fought for, everything we’ve gained in the past eight years Donald Trump has pledged to repeal. The Paris Climate deal, the Keystone Pipeline veto, even the very existence of the EPA , are all up for grabs in this election. Trump has made it a priority to attack one of Clean Water Action’s most important and hardest fought victories, the Clean Water Rule, which protects drinking water for 1 in 3 Americans.

my 100 day action plan: We’re going to rescind all the Obama job destroying executive actions including the Waters of the United States rule.

Trump’s dangerous leadership could not come at a more pivotal time. This past June was the sixteenth consecutive hottest month on record, yet if elected Donald Trump would be the only world leader who denies the existence of climate change. Not Kim Jon-Un. Not Vladimir Putin. Donald Trump, the potential president of the United States of America. Even many conservatives, who deny humankind’s obvious impact on climate, don’t deny that climate change exists. Not Trump. He has called climate change a “hoax” perpetrated by university professors to get more funding.  In 2014 Trump tweeted

Give me clean, beautiful and healthy air - not the same old climate change (global warming) bullshit! I am tired of hearing this nonsense.

Yet the reality TV star has no plans to protect clean air and water either. In fact, Trump has made clear his contempt for the EPA and would work to significantly weaken its power.  In a Fox News interview when asked which departments budgets he would cut Trump replied:

Environment Protection, what they do is a disgrace. Every week they come out with new regulations. They’re making it impossible…you can’t destroy businesses.

We can’t go back. We must go forward.

If these statements are as disturbing to you as they are to us then take President Obama’s advice, “Don’t Boo. Vote.”
