The Year in Clean Water: 2009

Everglades at dawn, photo by James GoodWe have never had a better chance of fixing the Clean Water Act and delivering results on the Clean Water issues that matter the most. Help us seize the moment and change the course of our nation's clean water future.

By continuing your support with a generous year-end gift, you are helping to advance Clean Water Action's vision for water protection in the 21st Century that will be realized by:

  • Strengthening and enforcing the Clean Water Act and better integrating the ways environmental, energy and health protection laws are used to restore and protect water resources.
  • Promoting global warming solutions that protect our water resources and build a new energy economy that replaces inefficient old polluting technologies with clean renewable alternatives, including wind and solar.
  • Investing in smart 21st Century technologies and infrastructure solutions that save energy, provide ecosystem protection and restoration benefits, create jobs and deliver more effective water protection from watershed to water tap, for upstream and downstream users, including urban, rural and coastal communities.

Recent news stories, like The New York Times "Toxic Water" Series and reports from other major news outlets, have helped to expose the seriousness of the threats to our nation's waters. These problems are symptomatic of the nation's faltering commitment to clean and safe water and the demand for common sense solutions and Clean Water Action's active leadership on the issues.

We cannot go back to the days of dirty water. Passing legislation to fix the Clean Water Act is the first step needed to restore the nation's commitment to clean and safe water. Please take action today and urge your Representative to support proposed legislation that restates and clarifies the original intent of the Clean Water Act - to protect all waters of the United States.

Clean Water Action's strategy for protecting our water is successful because, with your help, we have been able to continue pressing forward with an ambitious water protection agenda at the federal level and in more than twenty states.

With your continued support we can meet the big challenges and seize the opportunities before us. Your donation to support Clean Water Action's advocacy and outreach - or your tax deductible gift to support the research and education programs of Clean Water Fund - will be put to work immediately on behalf of clean, safe water and healthy communities, now and for the future.
