Lead Levels in Children's Products Restricted
Clean Water Action and allies in the Coalition for a Safe & Healthy Connecticut turned back intense opposition from big chemical companies, the toy industry, and dozens of in-state retailers and recently won new legislation to phase out toxic lead and asbestos in children's products.
Clean Water Action endorsed 155 candidates for federal and state offices in 2008, with 80 percent of them winning their elections. Below are the winning candidates plus a few still too close to call as of November 6.
Helping homes and businesses become more energy efficient is the most effective way to reduce energy costs. The CT Department of Public Utility Control can save consumers an estimated $1 billion over the next ten years by approving an increase in funding for the Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund programs recommended in the "demand focus scenario" in our state's new energy plan. Not only will this save consumers money but it is a key strategy to reduce ozone smog pollution and global warming pollution.
For too long, American power plants have been freely polluting our atmosphere with climate-changing carbon dioxide (CO2) pollution. This is about to change. The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) is a coalition of 10 Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states who are working together to put a price on pollution.

To ensure that the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers’ Climate Change Action Plan is implemented, and that our government actively works toward the plan’s long-term goal of deep greenhouse gas reductions, environmental, health and other groups around the region are joining together to press for steady progress. The Connecticut Climate Coalition (CCC) will work to ensure full implementation of the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers’ Climate Change Action Plan in our own state. In addition, CCC will collaborate closely with coalition partners pressing for action on global warming around the region.
