This year's election to the board of the PEC offers the opportunity to finish reforming the scandal-plagued electric cooperative. The PEC is the largest consumer-owned electric cooperative in the nation, with well over 200,000 members in a vast service area stretching from the Austin suburbs to Junction. The PEC purchases most if its energy from the Lower Colorado River Authority and sells it at retail prices to its customers. Almost 40% of the energy provided by the LCRA comes from highly-polluting, coal-burning power plants.

Please vote in the PEC Board Elections. Clean Water Action urges our members who reside in the Pedernales Electric Cooperative service to vote in this year's board election. Online and mail-in voting is underway and ends on Friday, June 12.

As a PEC customer, you may vote in all three elections no matter where you live within the service area.

The 81st session of the Texas Legislature convened in early January 2009 and ends in early June. Observers are cautiously optimistic that our lawmakers will enact measures to expand Texas' commitment to renewable energy and energy efficiency, and increase protections of our air, water and natural areas. Texas continues to lead the nation in emissions of greenhouse gases and total toxins in the air and water. At the same time, no state has more potential for energy production from renewables than Texas, nor is any state in a better position to profit economically from the emerging clean energy economy.
