You want it. I want it. Polls show most of the American people want it. In his State of the Union speech, President Barack Obama made it clear that he wanted it, that Senator John Kerry wanted it, and that even conservative Senator Lindsey Graham wanted it.

The proof, as they say, is in the pudding. A first-of-its-kind national study of the toxic chemical "body burden" in health professionals found an array of hazardous chemicals in twenty doctors and nurses across the country, highlighting the need for state lawmakers to enact strong legislation that would alleviate the devastating impacts of these chemicals.

Lindane is the active ingredient in some products used to treat head lice and scabies. Health professional organizations throughout Michigan have supported action to phase out pharmaceutical use of lindane in Michigan. HB 4402 allows use of lindane in pharmaceutical products in Michigan only under the supervision of a physician in his or her office.
Lindane is no longer used in the U.S. for agricultural, veterinary, or military purposes. Although the majority of lindane was used in agriculture, all forms of lindane are persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic.

Based on testing provided by HealthyToys.org, up to one third of 1,500 popular children's toys tested in 2008 still contain medium or high levels of chemicals of concern. Unknowingly, we can expose our children to chemicals associated with learning disabilities, reproductive problems, and cancer.
Detroit Free Press, February 4, 2009: Cyndi Roper, Michigan director of Clean Water Action, praised Granholm's plans to restrict coal-fired power plants. "She is showing leadership that the rest of the country is going to look at," Roper said. "She is going to revolutionize the way we deliver energy and build our economy around an emerging industry."
Clean Water Action has been working with a coalition of other Michigan groups to put clean energy policy in place and bring much needed sustainable jobs to Michigan. More than 27,000 Clean Water Action members contacted Governor Granholm urging her to reject new coal plants for the state, and our concerted efforts are beginning to bear fruit.
Clean Water Action endorsed 234 candidates for federal and state offices in 2008, with 84 percent of them winning their elections. Below are the winning candidates plus one still too call.
