During its February 1st meeting, the South Florida Regional Planning Council found the most recent application to develop outside Miami-Dade's Urban Development Boundary (UDB) incompatible with surrounding agricultural land uses and inconsistent with the Strategic Regional Policy plan for South Florida.
This is Ferro Investment's 3rd attempt to move the UDB. However, planning officials vote Monday reinforces findings that there is no need for expansion and that development on the County's outskirts would compromise important farm lands and impact natural areas. Hold the Line activists agreed, citing the similar Lowe's amendment rejected by Governor Crist and Cabinet members in July 2009.
In another application, the Planning Council also unanimously objected to a proposal by FIR Investments seeking commercial truck storage on lands adjacent to key Water Conservation Areas and part of the Everglades ecosystem known as the Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area.
These amendments will soon undergo state review by the Department of Community Affairs before returning to the Miami-Dade County Commission in late spring.
