Clean Energy Communities

Clean Water Action has been working in collaboration with Massachusetts Interfaith Power and Light to promote clean energy choice in Massachusetts since 2005. In 2008 the Massachusetts Climate Action Network joined the Clean Energy Communities< projects. The Clean Energy Communities project is funded by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC).

Our Clean Energy Campaign Goals

  1. To increase public and official understanding of renewable energy and efficiency
  2. To get municipal governments to commit to purchase renewable energy. The first step is passing a Town Resolution.
  3. To get at least 150 households signed up for MTC's clean energy choice program and thus make the community eligible for an MTC matching grant.

We are campaigning for clean energy in Worcester, Salem, Haverhill, and Quincy. Worcester and Salem earned a matching grant from MTC in 2007. Worcester used the grant to fund their Renewable Energy Task Force, and Salem is using their grant to purchase a PV Solar Array.

In 2008-2009 we are continuing our clean energy work in Worcester, Salem, Haverhill, and Quincy and beginning a new campaign in Weymouth.
