Four Decades

40 Years of Action for Clean Water

No Dependence on Dirty Energy

Photo: Smoke StacksMinnesota generates over 90% of its electricity from coal and nuclear, two of the most polluting fuel sources used for electricity generation. Coal emits mercury which pollutes our waters and smog that causes asthma and lung cancer. Nuclear creates radioactive waste that remains toxic for hundreds of generations. In addition, given that Minnesota does not have coal or uranium resources, we ship money out of state for dirty energy. Minnesota spends $550 million annually to import coal from other states. Remaining dependent on fossil fuels for electricity generation is not a sustainable path for Minnesota.
