2006 Election Victories

PA StatehouseClean Water Action is pleased that Election Day 2006 saw wins by a number of strong pro-environment candidates.

We're very happy with the election of Bob Casey as our US Senator. We hope that he will help lead an effort to reverse the anti-environment tide of the past five years. We're also excited by the election of Joe Sestak, Patrick Murphy and Jason Altmire, strong pro-environment candidates for Congress from our state.

In Harrisburg, we're very pleased with the re-election of Governor Ed Rendell. As the stories on the front page of this Newsletter show, Governor Rendell has been a leader in the fight to improve our state's environment. We look forward to working with him for a second term.

We also welcome Bryan Lentz, Barbara McIlvaine Smith and Rick Taylor as new pro-environment members of the PA House of Representatives; and Charles McIlhinney as a new member of the PA Senate.

In all, 75% of the candidates endorsed by Clean Water Action were elected. We're pleased to have helped re-elect some strong pro-environment incumbents, and to elect new pro-environment candidates too.

The elections will hopefully usher in a new greener era in both Washington and Harris-burg. The change is welcome in Washington, where we've suffered through 5 years of attacks on our environment. Also the change in control of the PA House will increase the influence of some pro-environment legislators.

We look forward to working with legislators to make the environment a priority. And we'll be watching how they do, working to hold them accountable for the promises they made. Stay tuned!
