Kathy Aterno, National Managing Director – Florida and Colorado
Kathy started her environmental career in 1974 and has worked on numerous local, state and national campaigns. She has worked for Clean Water Action for 18 years in a variety of capacities. She maintains an MPA from George Mason University and received her Bachelors from George Washington University. Before Clean Water Action, Aterno worked on Capitol Hill as Chief of Staff for former Congressman David Bonior (D-MI) and Congressman Bill Richardson (D-NM). During the first term of the Clinton Administration, Aterno worked for the EPA Administrator Carol Browner.

Dawn Shirreffs, Program Coordinator
Dawn grew up in the suburbs of New York where her family still resides. She joined Clean Water in 2007 to pursue a lifelong passion in environmental protection and began work on critical issues facing South Florida. While at the Clean Water she has helped organize Miami-Dade's Hold the Line Campaign, conducted outreach in the community, and has worked in numerous coalitions on environmental policy initiatives. Prior to working with Clean Water, Dawn obtained Bachelor degrees in Environmental Studies and Growth Management from Rollins College. While attending university she was involved with a number of non-profit organizations and dedicated several years at a non-releasable wildlife sanctuary where she cared for and trained large exotic animals including predatory cats and reptiles.

Margaret Morales, South Florida Organizer
Margaret is an Arizona native but has spent the last several years in North Carolina. She received her Bachelor's degree from Duke University, majoring in Environmental Science and Policy and English. After graduating she went on to receive her Certificate in Documentary Film and Video from the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke. She has worked on a number of documentary films, focusing on environmental and justice issues. She has also worked throughout Latin America on tropical conservation projects and most recently returned from the Peruvian Amazon where she interned with a community environmental protection organization. Margaret is happy to be a part of the Florida Clean Water team and remains shocked at how close alligators come to Everglades visitors!
