Primary Elections Victories: Clean Water Action Supports Pro-Environment Candidates!

September 16th was Primary Day in Massachusetts and it was a great day for the environment.  Seven of 8 candidates endorsed by Clean Water Action won their primary races.

The most notable victory was that of Jim Cantwell, Democratic candidate for House of Representatives in the 4th Plymouth House seat, including the towns of Marshfield and Scituate.  Cantwell won a 4-way race with 52% of the vote, a huge margin, making him the Democrat’s nominee from that district.

Clean Water Action endorses candidates for office who we believe will be champions for the environment and CWA issue goals. We base our endorsements on the candidate’s records and endorsement questionnaires. We inform our members about our local endorsements and encourage them to vote for our candidate.  For key races, our field teams go door to door in the candidate’s district talking with our members about the election and urging them to vote for our endorsed candidates.

Here are the other candidates we endorsed for the primary and the election results:

Representative Willie Mae Allen [D] - 6th Suffolk House district –won with 76% of the vote
Representative Paul Donato [D] - 35th Middlesex House district - won with 60% of the vote
Representative Carl Sciortino [D] - 34th Middlesex House district – won a write in campaign with 55% of the vote.
Representative David Sullivan [D] - 6th Bristol House district - won with 67% of the vote
Representative Benjamin Swan  [D] - 11th Hampden House district – won with 55% of the vote

Jen Benson – 37th Middlesex House district
