Clean Water Action has endorsed Gerry Connolly (VA, CD 11) and Frank Kratovil (MD, CD 1) for Congress.
Clean Water Action has endorsed Gerry Connolly for Congress to represent the 11th House District, which encompasses parts of Fairfax and Prince William Counties. Connolly, the Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, was endorsed by Clean Water Action for that position when he first ran for it in 2003, and we endorsed his reelection in 2007.
In Fairfax County, Connolly was instrumental in getting Fairfax County honored by the National Association for County Organizations (NAC) for its policies addressing climate change at the local level. Under Connolly's leadership, Fairfax County has been a regional leader in developing watershed restoration and protection plans for its major streams that are tributaries to the Potomac and Occoquan Rivers. Connolly's campaign has crafted an impressive ten-point environmental agenda.
Clean Water Action staff have been knocking on doors and calling members to mobilize the vote and get Gerry Connolly elected to Congress, where we are sure he will emerge as a strong environmental champion on Capitol Hill.
If you live in Virginia's 11th Congressional District, we urge you to vote for Gerry Connolly for Congress.
Frank Kratovil, a State's Attorney in Queen Anne's County, has won Clean Water Action's endorsement to replace longtime Congressman Wayne Gilchrest to represent Maryland's 1st Congressional District.
Kratovil's grasp on the complex challenges of protecting and restoring the 1st District's natural resource treasures, which include a big part of the Chesapeake Bay, were clearly on display in his responses to the questionnaire and an interview that are part of our endorsement process.
For example, Kratovil supports the Clean Water Restoration Act, federal legislation that is a national priority due to the Bush Administration's attempts to Kratovil faces Andrew Harris, a Republican state senator who unfortunately defeated Congressman Gilchrest in the Februay 12th primary earlier this year.
Gilchrest's record of strong support of the Chesapeake Bay will be missed, and it is no surprise that the Republican Congressman has endorsed the Democratic nominee Kratovil. Kratovil's opponent has a woeful record in Annapolis.
Frank Kratovil promises to be a much stronger advocate for protecting and improving the quality of life in Maryland's 1st District, and for championing the environmental treasures of the Chesapeake. As a proponent of reducing "greenhouse gas" emissions and promoting cleaner energy, he will help create jobs for a sustainable economy that protects the planet.
