Environmental Health Campaign Organizer

Clean Water Fund and Clean Water Action in Michigan will be hiring an environmental health organizer based in our Ann Arbor office to help implement the organization's environmental health initiatives. The Environmental Health Campaign Organizer has the potential to evolve into a full-time permanent position. The focus of this effort is to reform public policy to better protect our health from toxic hazards. We seek an energetic and experienced organizer who will work within a leadership team to educate Michigan residents on key environmental health efforts. Clean Water Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization providing research, education, organizing, and technical assistance to strengthen grassroots environmental efforts. Clean Water Fund's work complements that of Clean Water Action, a 501(c)(4) national organization with more than 235,000 Michigan members.

Responsibilities

The campaign organizer's responsibilities will include designing and coordinating public education campaigns, coordinating district citizen lobby efforts, making public presentations to groups, preparing materials and trainings for grassroots community groups, seeking out and engaging coalition partners to build the coalition, participating in team-based strategic planning and policy development, and fundraising to support these projects.

Qualifications

  • Successful professional experience organizing the public on environmental or health issues (a minimum of 1-2 years experience preferred)
  • Demonstrated environmental, social welfare or election campaign experience
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental health and/or children's health initiatives
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience in preparing and delivering public presentations, and an ability to articulate campaign messages to the media
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and problem-solve in fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Research and critical analysis abilities, and computer skills
  • Well-organized and self-motivated
  • Must be willing to travel to Grand Rapids, Lansing and throughout Southeast Michigan
  • Availability for evenings and weekends
