Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund are seeking a Community Organizer to staff our Florida west coast program.
Clean Water Action, is a national organization with over 1 million members nationally, 52,000 in Florida, whose goals are clean, safe and affordable water; prevention of health-threatening pollution; creation of environmentally-safe jobs and businesses; and empowerment of people to make democracy work. Clean Water Action organizes strong grassroots groups and coalitions, and campaigns to elect environmental candidates and solve environmental and community problems.
Clean Water Fund is a national organization providing research, education, organizing, and technical assistance to strengthen grassroots environmental efforts around the country. Clean Water Fund promotes the public interest on issues related to water, natural resources, health, and a healthy economy. Clean Water Action and Clean Water Fund work together on selected campaigns and programs.
Responsibilities
Overall responsibility for leading Clean Water’s election and program work in Tampa, Florida, including the following specific responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee programs and campaigns, including legislative and electoral campaigns, community and coalition organizing, policy development, and research and education programs. Provide direction to local and state campaigns. Work in partnership with national staff to implement local and state elements of national campaigns.
- Develop and implement fundraising plans in coordination with national staff.
- Hire, train, supervise and develop program staff.
- Provide program direction and support for field and phone canvass programs. Work in partnership with canvass leadership to build strong canvass programs.
- Develop and implement the state budget and financially management plans.
- Represent Clean Water in work with other organizations, public officials, funders and the media.
Qualifications
- Two or more years of progressively responsible political campaign management experience.
- Experience as an organizer with an environmental or other non-profit organization.
- Proven ability to supervise, support and develop volunteers, including people located in different cities.
- Experience developing and working with campaigns or coalitions.
- Experience in any type of fundraising.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and computer literacy.
- Experience with professional canvass programs desirable.
Other Information
- Regular travel in five counties of west and central Florida and to occasional national gatherings.
